Dunham House

Set in Quebec's Eastern Townships, Dunham House helps clients 18-65 dealing with addiction and mental health challenges, and they specialize in serving people with both, as well as people dealing with alcohol or cocaine addiction. Notably, Dunham House speaks English and can serve people in Quebec who speak the language. Their options are a 30-day intensive program, a 6-month core program, and outpatient services in Montreal. Out-of-town clients are welcome at the 30-day and 60-day programs. For young adults, they have special programming that accounts for their life changes and helps them succeed in their work or school program.
They use a mix of therapies to serve clients, like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention planning, art, music, equine therapy, gardening, and recreational therapy. These therapies help people manage emotions, understand their habits, and recover with time-tested, evidence-based tools.
Residents stay in semi-private rooms in a serene, 85-acre campus ideal for reflection, self-exploration, and recovery. The space comprises trails, a pond, a 7000-square-foot vegetable garden, a greenhouse, chicken coop, kayaking, and hiking. Their garden-to-table meals fit different diets, including vegan or vegetarian diets.
Dunham House also serves families with a loved one in addiction through their 6-week person. Up to 10 participants can register for each session and learn about stages of addiction & change, impacts on families and caregivers, communication & boundaries, family dynamics, self-care, and rebuilding trust. They help participants understand what their family member is going through and learn how to respond in ways that are healthy for both the person in addiction and the family member.
