Catholic Charities/Diocese of Syracuse Mens Rutger House

Men’s Rutger House is a 16-bed community residence in Utica, New York, for adult men transitioning from inpatient substance use treatment. It supports individuals in recovery who face housing instability or unsafe environments. The home offers a structured, alcohol- and drug-free setting to promote health, independence, and a return to productive living.
The program uses a mutual help model, which emphasizes peer support and resident participation in daily routines. Each individual follows a personalized service plan and receives intensive outpatient treatment at local partner centers. Transportation to and from these treatment sites is provided. The program’s goal is to help participants restore health, build independence, and develop productive lifestyles.
During their stay, residents actively engage in their treatment plans and are encouraged to attend community-based recovery groups such as alcoholics anonymous (AA), narcotics anonymous (NA), and secular organizations for sobriety (SOS). These groups help build peer support networks essential to long-term recovery. Admission is voluntary, and no one is denied services based on their ability to pay.
